Recent commissions..

Last year I was commissioned to paint scenes from the house and garden by the owners of Gargunnock, a beautiful Landmark Trust house just outside Stirling.  After a few visits to catch the garden in different seasons and to hone down the myriad possibilities for view to work from, I was able to get to work on the final watercolour in my studio.

This is the grand unveiling, Sir James Stirling presents the picture to Willie Campbell, the long-term head gardener at Gargunnock, as a leaving present.

Olympia and pastures new.

My somewhat neat stand at Top Drawer Olympia.

My stand at Top Drawer, Olympia.  First foray into the land of trade fairs.  It was a total pleasure to meet so many interesting people from the world of heritage and design and also to garner a clutch of interesting new stockists, both here and overseas.  These included My Bookshop (comprised of two fab and contemporary design led bookstores in Melbourne Australia), WAUW a directional design store & florist in the Hauge and the quieter haven of the shop at Ballymaloe cookery school in Ireland, Co. Cork.

Game Cards

Below is an example of a game card design I was commissioned to design for Carham, a beautiful sporting estate in the Tweed valley.  I used a combination of fairly fine pen drawings with a colourful bird for the front of the card, which was A6 in this case.  Myself and my printers can handle all the digital set up and print runs can be carried out in runs from x100 cards.

New designs and originals.

Around commissioned work, I’ve turned my hand to food and vegetable illustration of late.  Both of the below designs are now published as A5 cards, and soon to be prints.  The originals are available and are painted on lovely heavyweight Saunders watercolour paper, 75 x 57cms,  currently unframed, though can be provided in a frame of your choice.  Please send me an email to enquire.

Squash and Gourds

‘Squash and Gourds’, watercolour on paper, 57 x 73 cms.

‘Salad’, watercolour on paper, 57 x 73cms.

Recently I was asked to design and manage the print for a run of invite cards, this time for a lovely annual garden party in Edinburgh.  Pretty good subject matter to draw on what with St Stephens church spire in the background and many lovely plants and flowers just in bloom.

I used a font called Trajan for the final print run, printed onto thick Conqueror card.  The current Edinburgh street signs font was custom designed by David Kindersley (1915-1995), a Cambridge-based stonecutter and type designer.  Trajan provided the closest Adobe match myself and my printer could find and seemed like a fitting choice.

‘Bee lines’- a range of new bee-inspired stationery and an A3 print

I recently painted a bee chart with a botanical feel, illustrating six different bee types with their common and latin names underneath.  The original is now sold however, I’ve published the original image as an A3 print, provided card backed and unmounted.

Spring fair and new products

A spring post.

I am excited to be holding a pop-up shop in Edinburgh’s new town with a handful of other Scottish businesses, including The Perfect Present Company and Pilcher’s clothing.  The event will be held at 1A Abercromby Place on Wednesday March 23rd and this is my illustrated poster for the event.

Pop-Up flier Mar 2016 I’ve a handful of nice new stockists, more to follow on that soon.  Meanwhile, existing suppliers have recently reordered wide ranges of my card and stationery designs, including Potterton Books, on Lower Sloane Street and Green and Stone, on the Kings Road.  Both very close to my old stomping ground in Battersea, so an area I know well though I am planning on developing relations with shops further afield.  More to follow on that also!

I’ve been busy adding new designs to the range.  The Seaweed chart below is published as a large print and A5 cards.  I hope to be able to reproduce this as a tea towels soon also.  I’ve also been encouraged to work on developing more fun yet informative illustrations for children to have in their bedrooms or playrooms.  I thought a Pond Life chart would be just the thing, and each print is supplied with a key card of the animal names, should parents get a bit stuck on this (as I would have been, without having researched..!).  This design is also available as cards and prints.

I have also developed a small series on game birds and fish comprised of two designs of correspondence card packs and a salmon flies card, (an image of the latter to follow).  The fish and bird cards feature a different animal on each card, six in a pack and supplied with ribbed manila envelopes.  Here are some pictures:
